One of a kind… Rarely will you see a youngster taking challenge upon challenge as Wesley does. At 35 years of age, Wesley Steffens has been working for some of the most perfection-obsessed characters in Napa Valley.

Thomas Keller of The French Laundry for one year, then for Bill Harlan and Bob Levy for four years -- where Wesley was granted the esteemed title of Cellar Master for Harlan Estate. In 2006, Wesley tackled an enormous project overseeing building and planting of his incredible property that is Vineyard 7 & 8 on Spring Mountain. As the Owner and GM of Vineyard 7 & 8, Wesley still works under the tutelage of the uncompromising Luc Morlet with the goal of one day achieving greatness on his own.

2009 “Estate” Chardonnay

Maker Info
Vineyard 7 & 8

The Steffens family began their quest in 1999 when they purchased the forty-acre estate located 2000 feet above the Napa Valley floor on Spring Mountain. The vineyards, originally planted in the early 1980’s are comprised of four acres of Chardonnay and twelve acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. Vineyard 7 & 8’s philosophies are to produce premium, handcrafted wines highlighting a sense of place within the Spring Mountain District through experience, passion and humility.

Luc Morlet, formerly the Director of Winemaking at Peter Michael Winery, joined the team starting with the 2007 harvest. Taking on the role of Winemaker, Luc’s attention to detail and experience with Bordeaux style wines has been a great asset in helping us craft the highest quality wines from our vineyards.

Wesley Steffens joined the family winery full time in 2006 to complete the construction of the new winery facility, and take on the general management of daily operations. Previously Cellar Master at Harlan Estate Winery for four years, Wesley also assists Luc as Vineyard 7 & 8’s Assistant Winemaker. In June of 2007,

Vineyard 7 & 8 welcomed Alissa Aurecchione, formerly Assistant General Manager of Thomas Keller’s Bouchon. Alissa’s expertise in hospitality and client management allows her to assume her role as Director of Sales & Hospitality. Pete Richmond of Silverado Farming Company joined the team in 2006 with the role of managing operations in the vineyards and begin working on the development of new vineyards. Pete and his team work to sustainably grow the best fruit possible, highlighting the Spring Mountain terrior.

Construction of the winery and aging cave for Vineyard 7 & 8 began in 2004 and was used for the first time with the 2006 vintage. Completed in 2008, the new state-of-the-art winery on the property allows complete control over all of the winemaking operations to an even greater degree than before. The winery offers majestic panoramic views of the surrounding valley below.
